Firm but Fair Leadership. A Safer Jail for a Stronger Henderson Community.

My name is Anthony Willett, and I am honored to be a lifelong resident of Henderson, Kentucky. This is the community that shaped me, and it is where Patti and I have built our life together for 20 years. I am a husband, a father, and your neighbor. I want for our community what I want for my own family: safety, fairness, and a future defined by opportunity. With your support, I will provide the professional, fiscally responsible leadership our detention center needs to build a safer, stronger Henderson for all of us.

Foundation of Service & Discipline

My commitment to public service began as a young man when I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps while still in high school. After graduating from Henderson County High in 1997, I served five years on active duty, forging the core values of discipline, leadership, and integrity. These principles guide my life today, and following my honorable discharge in 2002, I knew my mission to serve this community was only just beginning.

I dedicated a decade of my career to the Henderson County Detention Center, rising from Deputy to Major of Operations. As Major of Operations, I ran the day-to-day operations of the facility, was responsible for the overall safety and security of staff and inmates, and conducted training in all key areas, including use of force, firearms, basic deputy jailer, and advanced deputy jailer training. I am proud to have founded and commanded the Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) and served as the facility's Training Officer. My time on the front lines gave me a clear perspective on the challenges facing both staff and inmates, teaching me that effective leadership requires both firm discipline and true compassion.

Advanced Law Enforcement Leadership

In 2012, I joined the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, rising through the ranks to Lieutenant and Administrative Commander. Today, I oversee our critical training protocols and coordinate operations to ensure our deputies serve Henderson with excellence. I am especially proud to have built our Field Training Program from the ground up in 2016. My leadership is backed by professional certification from the Academy of Police Supervision at Eastern Kentucky University and ongoing advanced training through the Department of Criminal Justice Training.

Even after moving to the Sheriff's Office, my commitment to our jail remained steady. For the past four years, I have returned to the detention center on my days off to provide specialized defensive tactics training to our team. Much of this time was as a volunteer, because I believe in investing in the safety and professionalism of our staff.

Henderson is more than just where I live; it is the foundation of my family’s story. For twenty years, Patti and I have built our lives here, and raising our children in this community has only deepened my commitment to its safety and prosperity. My decades of service have prepared me for the challenges of this office, but my love for this town is what drives my mission. I would be honored to have your support to lead our detention center with the professionalism and integrity that Henderson County deserves.

I am running for Henderson County Jailer because every person in that facility—whether staff or inmate—is someone’s son, daughter, parent, or friend. Our jail must be a safe, professional environment where accountability is balanced with opportunity. I want our deputies to work with pride, knowing they are respected and supported. And I want those in our custody to leave better than they arrived—sober, skilled, and ready for a fresh start. Keeping our community safe is my deepest commitment and my highest priority.

My Promises to Henderson County

  • Protect Our Deputies – Provide the advanced training, real support, and respectful culture every deputy deserves.

  • Keep Our Community Safe – Tighten security to stop drugs and contraband from entering the jail and spilling onto our streets.

  • Invest in Real Second Chances – Expand access to GEDs, job training, and recovery programs proven to cut repeat offenses.

  • Lead in the Open – Practice honest leadership with clear policies, regular updates, and open communication with the public.

  • Respect Every Tax Dollar – Run a disciplined, transparent budget and share straightforward reports on how your money is used.

Leadership means building a strong team and ensuring everyone works together toward common goals. Anthony's track record of recruiting, training, and retaining qualified staff will bring stability and professionalism to the Henderson County Detention Center.
